The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued instructions for the mandatory implementation of e-Service Books across all Central Government Ministries and Departments.
Implementation of e-Service Book
Key Points:
- The Service Book records all events and administrative actions throughout a government servant’s career — from appointment to retirement — and is maintained as per Supplementary Rules (SR) 198 & 199.
- It must be kept by the Head of Office and transferred along with the employee during postings.
- The Government has now decided to digitally maintain Service Books on the e-HRMS 2.0 portal.
All Ministries/Departments are directed to:
- Ensure onboarding on e-HRMS 2.0.
- Digitize and verify the completeness and accuracy of Service Book data.
- Phase out physical Service Books after confirmation.
- Treat the e-Service Book as legally valid for all official purposes.
This move aims to streamline service record maintenance, promote digital governance, and ensure greater accuracy and transparency in government employee records
