Rule Position about the effect of Your NPS Pension Corpus After Compulsory Retirement or Dismissal
Rule 18 of the Central Civil Services (Implementation of NPS) Rules, 2021 outlines the impact of compulsory retirement, dismissal, or removal from Government service on the accumulated pension corpus under the National Pension System (NPS) for Central Government employees covered by NPS.
NPS Pension Corpus Payout
If an employee under NPS is compulsorily retired, dismissed, or removed from service as a penalty, the lump sum and annuity from their accumulated pension corpus will be paid according to the regulations notified by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), similar to the provisions for a subscriber exiting NPS before superannuation.
Option to Continue with NPS
Such employees may opt to continue subscribing to the NPS with the same Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) as non-Government subscribers, in line with the PFRDA’s regulations.
Other Retirement Benefits
These provisions do not affect any other actions regarding gratuity or other retirement benefits. Such benefits will be managed under the applicable rules governing them.
Implementation Directive
All Ministries and Departments are requested to inform personnel managing NPS-related matters in their offices and subordinate entities of these provisions to ensure strict compliance.
