No Plans for Eighth Pay Commission, Says Finance Ministry

The Rajya Sabha witnessed a discussion today regarding the constitution of the Eighth Central Pay Commission, with Shri Javed Ali Khan and Shri Ramji Lal Suman raising the question (Question No. 870). The query sought clarity on whether the Government was considering announcing the formation of the Pay Commission in the upcoming Budget session of February 2025, especially in light of rising inflationary trends.

Responding to the query, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, categorically stated that there is currently no proposal under consideration for constituting the Eighth Central Pay Commission. His response has caused disappointment among approximately 50 lakh Central Government employees and 60 lakh pensioners, who were expecting salary and pension revisions effective from January 1, 2026, following the decennial practice of pay revisions.

The question also addressed whether the fiscal condition of the Union Government was a constraint in revising the pay scales. However, since the proposal is not under consideration, the Minister stated that this aspect does not arise.

This announcement has raised concerns about the financial future of millions of government employees and pensioners, as they grapple with the impact of inflation and stagnant pay scales. The absence of a proposal for a new Pay Commission leaves a significant question mark on future salary and pension revisions.

  1. There is no support from BJP government to sr. Citizen/pensioners. Everything on the hand of God. He will give timely punishment who prevents. All the days would not be sundays for BJP.
