A Call for Immediate Constitution of 8th Pay Commission
The Central Government Employees and Pensioners are overdue for a wage revision. Shri. Shiv Gopal Misra, Secretary of the Staff Side JCM, has urged the Government of India for the immediate constitution of 8th Pay Commission (CPC).
Why the 8th CPC Is Crucial Now
The 7th CPC recommendations were implemented in 2016. Historically, pay revisions occur every 10 years. The next revision, due from January 1, 2026, requires immediate action to avoid delays in implementation.
- The 7th CPC was constituted two years before its effective date.
- With just one year left, the Government risks not meeting the timeline for wage and pension updates.
Delay in Response: A Growing Concern
Despite multiple requests, including a formal letter from the Staff Side JCM, no progress has been made. The delay raises concerns about fairness and administrative efficiency.
Timeframe for Pay Commissions
Pay Commissions typically need two years to prepare their recommendations. This includes:
- Data collection
- Stakeholder consultations
- Report drafting
- The Government also requires an additional 3-6 months for final implementation.
Ensuring Timely and Fair Wage Revisions
Timely constitution of the 8th CPC is critical. Delays may result in:
- Financial uncertainty for employees and pensioners
- Logistical challenges for the Government
A Request made by NCJCM Staff Side to the Cabinet Secretary to Set up 8th CPC
Shri Shiv Gopal Misra, Secretary of the Staff Side JCM (National Council), has written a letter to the Cabinet Secretary of the Government of India, urging the immediate constitution of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC). He extended New Year 2025 greetings and highlighted that it has been nine years since the implementation of the 7th CPC recommendations.
He emphasized that the next wage and pension revision for Central Government employees and pensioners is due on January 1, 2026, adhering to the established 10-year cycle since 1986. Despite a prior request made six months ago, there has been no response from the government.
The letter notes that previous pay commissions, such as the 7th CPC, were constituted well in advance to allow adequate time for preparation, deliberation, and implementation. With just one year left before the next revision, any delay in constituting the 8th CPC could compromise the timely implementation of its recommendations.
Shri Misra urged the Cabinet Secretary to take up the matter with the Prime Minister and Finance Minister to expedite the formation of the 8th CPC and ensure timely wage and pension revisions.
Immediate Action Required
The 8th Central Pay Commission must be constituted without further delay. It is a matter of financial justice and administrative responsibility.
