Reconsideration of Retirement Age for Central Government Employees !

Shri Tejasvi Surya, Member of Parliament, raised a question regarding the reconsideration of the retirement age for Central Government employees. The inquiry sought clarity on whether the government plans to revise the superannuation age to a maximum service period of 30 years or 60 years of age, whichever comes first, to ensure uniformity in civil services and create more opportunities for youth born after 2000.

Government Response: Retirement Age 60 Years or 30 Years Service ?

No Proposal to Revise Retirement Age:

The government confirmed that there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age criteria.

Youth Employment Measures:

The government emphasized its ongoing efforts to enhance youth employment in civil services through:

  • Policies and programs aimed at providing job opportunities based on requirements.
  • Directions to ministries and departments to fill vacant posts promptly.
  • Organizing Rozgar Melas for filling vacancies in a time-bound manner across ministries, public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies, and institutions in education and health sectors.

The response highlights the government’s focus on employment generation while maintaining the current retirement policies for its employees.

  1. 1.Since the upper limit of appointment agebis raised to 35_ 40yrs and still more youngsters are unemployed it is better to make appointment opportunities on Reservation basis to the above 30yrs persons,and thereby increase retirement age ,to65 as it is for anganwadi teachers
    2.35 yrs of service or 65 yrs of age vl be ideal because some persons appointed in 18 yrs get42 yrs of goverment service whereas after 30/35yrs appointed persons get only 25_30 yrs of service,if they retire at 60yrs,with no promotion ,and with the least retirement benefits.
    3.yes ,at present there are persons with 40_42yrs of service,and also the least20tio25 yrs of service wherein the 2d group is deprived of all promotions, and financial benefits too
