AICPIN for December 2024 Drops by 0.8 Points! Will This Lead to DA from January 2025 Being 55% or 56%?

It is quite unusual that the AICPIN was released beyond the normal timeline. To everyone’s surprise, the AICPIN points decreased by 0.8% despite the prices of essential commodities remaining considerably high. Anyway, this decrease in AICPIN for December is a real concern for all government employees who have been eagerly awaiting the release of the next DA installment from January 2025, as it will negatively impact the DA rate.
Will DA from January 2025 Be 55% or 56%?
Surprisingly, the DA calculation result for January 2025 shows 55.98%. This figure is uncertain, as it is unclear whether it will be rounded off to 56%.
Since our calculation of the DA for January 2025 results in 55.98%, it is likely to be rounded off to 56%, following the standard rule where any value of 0.50 or above is rounded up to the next whole number. For official confirmation, however, we must wait for the government’s notification or announcement regarding the revised DA rates.

Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (2016=100) – December, 2024
1.Labour Bureau, an attached office of the M/o Labour & Employment, has been compiling Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers every month on the basis of retail prices collected from 317 markets spread over 88 industrially important centres in the country. The index for the month of December, 2024 is being released in this press release.
2.The All-India CPI-IW for December, 2024 decreased by 0.8 point and stood at 143.7 (one hundred forty three point seven).
3.Year-on-year inflation for the month of December, 2024 stood at 3.53% as compared to 4.91% in December, 2023
